    Timeline

I have watched Markiplier— the director, producer, writer, and main actor of Iron Lung— for many years. Some of my first ever cosplays were of his characters. So when I saw Iron Lung in the theater and fell in love with the character I knew I had to cosplay Simon. I made this cosplay over the course of 3 weeks, going back to see the movie 4 times to take notes on the costume, as almost no photos of it existed.

     The Hood

The hood pattern was made by tracing the hood a a sweatshirt and then creating a trial harness out of spare fabric to create the pattern for the rest of it.  The base hood was almost entirely hand sewn, sans part of the harness.

In order to have dimensions in the weathering I weathered as I applied patches. The original hood was weathered, then I added some patches and repeated the process.

​

When weathering I used thin layers acrylic paint applied with a paper towel. Then I used watered down acrylic paint applied with a rough textured brush in later layers.

​

The patches are made of 3 different colored fabrics, and were all sewn on and layered. Some placements were directly inspired by or recreating images of the BTS photos.

     General Weathering

When weathering the pants I focused on areas that would naturally get dirty. The knees,  ankles, butt, and pockets were the main focus.

When I weathered the shirt I used a mix of fabric die, ink, and watered down acrylic paint. I also added stitching to mimic repairs. Using superglue I was able to encircle parts of the shirt, so I could make tears in the knit, without needing to worry about unraveling.​
